Blymyer:
My Life as an A.D.
I was called about a show that needed a 2nd A.D. for a
television show shooting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I'm not even
sure who gave my name out but off I went for 5 months of Santa
Fe winter to shoot on "The Lazarus Man" with Robert Urich. The
1st A.D.s were all new to me. It was great to shoot a western
again and once again the locations were beautiful despite the
cold and wind!
The next summer I was called to replace a 2nd A.D. on
"Anaconda". I met a great 1st A.D. named KC Colwell. We spent
time in the Arboretum outside of Los Angeles that was supposed
to be Brazil. One of the stars of the show was one of the
biggest I had worked with, the animatronic snake.
After "Anaconda", KC Colwell asked me to work on "George of
the Jungle" with him. This was my first comedy! And it was a
lot of fun. Brendan Fraser was a delight and Thai the elephant
was as sweet as could be. We spent a couple of weeks in San
Francisco, then returned to Los Angeles to George's jungle. At
the end of the show we went on location to Hawaii to roam the
jungles there. Yet, another wonderful experience.
I was invited back to "Melrose Place" for a few months as a
2nd A.D. to take the place of the regular for a while. It was
like visiting a family that I hadn't seen in awhile.
